We currently use ISWI 1.52 to create our base and patch releases of our products that run on NT 95 and Win 2/K. Our product also runs on a number of Unix platforms and we use IS Java Edition for packaging them. With the next release of our products, we are looking at using the native install methods for the packaging the Unix platforms. This has brought up the question of using Windows Installer to do our packaging (I assume you can do this) and get ISWI out of the loop. We do nothing fancy in our install and do not use any of the advanced features ISWI provides. I have looked at the MS Platform SDK and not being a Windows programer, I get the sense that there will be more work to creating a installable version of our products then when using the wizard in ISWI.

I would welcome any comments on this subject and suggests/pointers to examples of packaging with WI.

Have a look at my WISEINST tool, this makes it a lot easier (but you do need Wise for Windows Installer PRO (it automates this tool).

A script that will generate a basic MSI setup from a directory tree can be found at http://www.xmission....lize/installer/
