Hi,

I have a simple merge module (no custom actions, just files and registry entries) that is embedded into MSIs.

I am observing a behavior that an older version of MSM - say 2.00.019 - can overwrite a newer one - say 2.00.020. The number I mention is from Merge Module Properties | Product Version. I see that the "Always overwrite" should be set to NO and there must be a key file of the component. I have both these.

I still see that an MSI that embeds older version can successfully overwrite the newer version.

What needs to be done in MSM and/or MSI to avoid this behavior? unsure.gif

Thanks,
~Kedar

The merge module version doesn't matter. Only the version info in the files (DLL etc.) matters.

Thanks for the response, Stephan.

I understand it now. But is there any way I can add version to non-DLL files?

Thanks,
~Kedar
