Macrovision announced that certain older InstallShield products will no longer be supported after October 31, 2005. This also means that the affected versions no longer qualify for an upgrade to the latest product version. Instead you would then have to pay the full price. In the past, owners of older versions could buy the latest version at about half the price, regardless how old their existing version was. This will no longer be possible for product versions such as InstallShield Professional 5 or 6. However Macrovision will still support multiple older product generations. Therefore owners of InstallShield Professional 7, Developer 8, or DevStudio 9 are not affected by this change (at least for now). InstallShield Express will be supported in version 5 or higher, InstallShield MultiPlatform in version 4.5 or higher.

If you plan to upgrade to InstallShield 11 and own one of the soon-unsupported versions you should order your upgrade before October 31.

If you own such an old version and do not plan to upgrade you should download all service packs, add-on tools and the like for your version soon. You may also want to store offline copies of relevant knowledge base articles. There is no official announcement, but I wouldn't be suprised if the support site got "cleaned" after November 1.

A problem has been reported when trying to download maintenance packs or objects for InstallShield Professional 6.x. When selecting IS Pro 6 from http://www.macrovisi...index.jsp?pm=CP, then clicking the link to package you want to download, then enter your serial number, you are directed to a download for the IS 7 maintenace pack instead of IS 6. Here's a workaround:

The link on http://www.macrovisi...index.jsp?pm=CP will look like this:
CODE
http://www.macrovision.com/downloads/redirect.jsp?id=314&url=http://www.installshield.com/downloads/mp.asp?prod=cp&pver=class631pee&lan=english

Remove the first part, and paste the part staring with http://www.installshield.com directly to your browser, like this:
CODE
http://www.installshield.com/downloads/mp.asp?prod=cp&pver=class631pee&lan=english

Thsi will also take you to the serial number form, but after that you get the correct download.
