Hi,

I'm new to Installshield DevStudio 9, previously used Orca to author packages.

Is it possible to add an existing MSM into a MSM. For example, authoring a common components MSM which needs MSXML 4.0 MSM. I can't find any way of doing this using DevStudio 9.

This doesn't really make sense. Merge modules are atomic units of files / registry entries to be shared among several products. You include merge modules in MSI's not in other merge modules.

What you could do is to specify the Module Dependencies. That can be achieved by using the General Information view in the Merge Module project.

You can't add a merge module to another megre module, i.e. merge modules can't consume merge modules.
You can however add the other merge module to the ModuleDependencies table.
