Attempting to install a Visual Basic application, packaged with Visual Studio Package & Deployment Wizard, I am presented with a message window requesting the location ot the [application name].MSI file - with a default location pointing to a mapped network drive. Although canceling this request does allow normal installation of the application, I would like to know (if at all possible) why this file is requested.

Sounds like Windows Installer is trying to auto-repair some other package. Maybe your setup overwrites files that it shouldn't, e.g. downgrades shared files. The MSI file for which product is it looking for? Does the Even Log show anything useful?
