Hi everybody,
I have been searching hard the relation between ValidateProductID Action, PIDKEY property, ProductID property, and PIDTemplate property. But I still don't get how to verify user input CDKEY during installation. To make my question more clear:
1. Where should I store the valid CDKEYs? If I store these CDKEYs in registry or in MSI, then anyone can get the CDKEY easily.
2. From my understanding, user input CDKEY will go through PIDTemplate then store in PIDKEY. After that I can use ValidateProductID to check if the CDKEY is a valid one. Is this sequence correct? And again, to what will ValidateProductID compare with PIDKEY?

Thank you.

Clyde,

I am not personally experienced with this however I have seen a number of posts related to it before.

From what I understand of these other posts you are required to use a custom action to a dll call to do the validation and enable it to stay secure.

I will try to dig up previous posts relating to this.

alternatively you could check out www.dragonsoft.spb.ru theres a fella there called Jimmy Huigens who specialises in dll calls etc hes probably already done something up for this.

Huckey,
Thanks for your information. Now, at least I have an idea about what keyword to use for searching. By the way, the web site that you indicated is currently down, I will try it later.
