I want to replace some dll's in the system32 directory of WinNT. The replacement should depend on the version number of the dll. A dll with a lower version number should always, with the same or higher value never be overwritten. Is the date/time of the file enough for the decision? Or, is a version check (like in IS 6) as an addon available?

You can not, not with java. You would have to write come kind of extention dll and then use that dll.
