Hi,
I'm getting very anoyed with trying to find the installation path
for a product that is currently installed (inst1).
I would like inst2 (a new *.msi) to install in the same folder as
inst1.msi, please help!
Is CompLocator the right thing to be looking at?
Please note that I'm using Orca and VSI,
Thanks for any help

The complocator is one of the easier tables to use. Unfortunately the documentation confuses matters by mentioning the signature table which you do not want. You will use the AppSearch table though
eg.
Appsearch table.
Property APROPERTY
Signature_ sigMyComponent
Complocator table
Signature sigMyComponent
ComponentId {TheGuidOfMyComponent}
Type 0
After the AppSearch action APROPERTY will be set to the directory of the component.
eg.
Appsearch table.
Property APROPERTY
Signature_ sigMyComponent
Complocator table
Signature sigMyComponent
ComponentId {TheGuidOfMyComponent}
Type 0
After the AppSearch action APROPERTY will be set to the directory of the component.

Thanks for your help,
but, it still didn't work so...
I just wrote a Custom Action and DLL to do the job.
Sometimes there just isn't time to waste with MSI.
