Hello,

does someone know, why especially http targets in a shortcut are created as disabled control?

Is there a possibilty to have an influence on that behaviour?

Thanks in advance!
Johannes

Advertised shortcuts have their target field disabled, while non-advertised shortcuts are "regular" shortcuts with editable target.
At least that's the case for shortcuts paointing to installed exes. Not sure about the hanlding of shortcuts that point to http resources. Is your shortcut a .lnk file or a .url file?

Hello Stefan,

I need an URL.

I suspect that IS has following problems:
- it's not possible to create an URL link
- if I create a "http" link, it's created with a disabled target field, like an advertised link

Perhaps an MS problem:
- Is the INI structure of the URL files state of the art
- The icon isn't shown at once, perhaps an XP problem?

Regards
Johannes

Meanwhile I have found

The problem with the not updating icon remains.

Try a local path for the icon parameter (i.e. copy the .ico file to the local hard disk).

Thanks, Stefan,

but the ico file is allready on a local disk.

The problem seams to be the name of the url file.
wrong: "iTWO 3.0 (2Col Intranet)"
right: "iTWO 3.0_(2Col Intranet)"
right: "xTWO 3.0 (2Col Intranet)"

I don't understand this logic.

But that's the logic of Windows!?!

So you say Windows replaces the blank with an underscore when you copy the file? (Maybe the blank isn't really a blank but some special character that looks like a blank, a non-breakable space for instance?)

And why does the name of the .url file matter regarding the icon it uses?

Sorry Stefan,

my message was misleading.

I let create the url with the blanks in the file name and the icon didn't appear.
Then I changed the name of the file within the explorer and the icon appeared.

Your question: "And why does the name of the .url file matter regarding the icon it uses?" That's my question too. I don't understand it.

And the curiosity:
Meanwhile after several changes and back to original name, the icon is now o.k.

After an uninstallation and new reinstallation, the icons are correct now. (why?)
The system seams to cash something.

Maybe an issue with Windows' icon cahce? Try deleting the file shelliconcache (I think that was the name) if the problem returns. This will cause Windows to rebuild the icon cache.

Yes, since XP it's the name IconCache.db, existing in several directories.

Wether I'm changing the size or deleting this file in my installation ...
I don't think, that this is the job of my setups...
