An upgrad can be packaged for deployment to the target system as a full installation(MSI Package). An upgrade packaged as a full instllation can be authored to upgrade an existing product if one is present or otherwise to behave as a first-time installation.

An upgrade can also be packaged as a Windows Installer patch file--having MSP as extension. A windows installer patch contains changes between the files adn MSI tables in the earlier and later versions.

what is patch design view and how to create it ?

I believe it is useful to someone who do not have the clear idea of the patches.
