Hello!
I know requirement, described in Windows Installer documentation, state that we need use only upper-case GUID.
Utilities like GUIDGEN permit lower-case letters in GUIDs.
What cause of this challenge?

guidgen is older than MSI and therefore didn't know about this requirement.
The requirement for only upper case letters was invented by the MSI developers for no obvious reason (at least it's not obvious to me).
You could ask this question in an upcoming MSI chat where the developers will attend. In particular the November chat could be interesting, as Rob Mensching, the guy who had written Orca (and now is writing WiX), will participate.

Did anyone ever get an answer to this? It really seems like a curious decision. Could it simplify character parsing if making an installer using exotic characters? It doesn't make sense.
