I'm on Win2000. I use VSI2.0.
My msi create an install-per-machine (ALLUSERS=1).
In it I have a shortcut's desktop on my file.exe

After the install in a user A session, all users have the shortcut on the desktop,ok.
But when i click on the shortcut in a user B session:
-it doesn't work, and try to launch an install !
-If I put line below in the registry (like user A):
  CURRENT_USER/Software/Myapp
It works...

Does somebody understand this ?

just curious if you experience the same behaviour when the setting is ALLUSERS = 2 ?  

with a setting of one only users with admin priv. can install while a setting of 2 allows all users to install ( i know in the final analysis you might not want this for security reasons but to try and narrow down the problem...)

also are the machine policies set to allow elevated installs ?  do the registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"AlwaysInstallElevated"=dword:00000001

please note that this key must be set in each user hive...
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"AlwaysInstallElevated"=dword:00000001

with this two set and an ALLUSERS=1 i think it should work... well here's hoping....
