Hi All,

I am trying to uninstall my msi on a w2000 machine, and i am getting an error message - 1404
and the GUID of the product, why?, why cannt the msi remove the product after uninstall. this works fine on other machines.
i also noticed that the GUID apear twice under HKLM\Software\microosoft\windows\currentversion\installer
once as a GUID and once as the same GUID only with .. after.
for example:
once as xxxxxxx
and once as xxxxxx..

Any suggestions?

Hi,
I met the same probleme but I haven't been able to understand it.
In my case, the problem only appears when using MSI 2.0. Is it your case?

TAL,
I am not talking about the version of InstallShield but of the version of Windows Insstaller Engine.
You can check this version in checking the version of msi.dll in SystemFolder on the local machine where tou are installing your package.
Windows Installer 2.0 is the newer version and is native on WXP.

Just a heads up,

I have seen the following behavior during the following scenario:

I installed Crystal Reports 8.0.  The default installation screwed up the permissions in the registry.  It did not matter that my user was a Local Administrator because the Administrator account had lost some necessary permissions to specific reg keys.

I had to use regedt32.exe to restore the proper permissions before I could manipulate those affected keys.

Perhaps the Installer Key and it subkeys have had the permissions altered.

Just a thought.

Good Luck
