We are getting errors reported from customers that they cannot install our software on Dell Laptops running Windows 2000 Pro.
Our install is written in IS 6.1 and it is being called as a subinstall by an install written in IS 5.5. Our IS 6.1 install is trying to read a registry string value written out by the IS 5.5 install, and our IS 6.1 install keeps retrieving an empty string. If we view the registry we can see that the string value we are trying to read is in the registry and it has a value other than an empty string.
Does anyone have any ideas why our IS 6.1 install is unable to retrieve the registry string value under these circumstances?
Are there any known issues with registry key access on Dell Laptops running Windows 2000 Pro?
Thanks,
Christine

Ok, we've managed to reproduce the error in house.
What we did to reproduce the problem is install a program written with IS 6.31 so that the IS 6.31 engine is loaded on the PC. When our IS 6.1 install is launched it uses the IS 6.31 engine and then it is unable to read the desired registry key.
Does anyone know what can be done to work around this problem?
