Hi, I just wanted to know what is the cleanest way to uninstall a patch.  I'm sending a patch down in .msi format that replaces a bunch of files and runs some scripts (that shut down certian windows services).  But when I uninstall the patch, it deletes the original files.  What is the best way to do a clean uninstall.

Please help, I am new to this and I can't figure out how to backup and put back the files when I uninstall.  How do you control the uninstall sequences or actions.

Sorry to disappoint you but there is no in built mechanism to rewind a patch to restore the previous version.  Window Installer works by overwriting or removing.

The only way to restore to an unpatched version is to uninstall the product and reinstall it.

msiexec /x {productcode}
msiexec /i product.msi
