We have just added the newish crystal reports object to one of our installs, and crystal reports is fine on win 2000. But on win 98 the crystal viewer flashes up for a moment and the error 20534 appears "database dll corrupted" and the application closes - any help would be very much appreciated!!

There are several reasons why you might get this error message. Depending on what kind of DB you are using, or if you are using True-Grid with your product.
I have run into problems with Crystal in the past when I installed the wrong version of the atl.dll on a Win98 machine. (There are different version for NT& WINxx)
Just installing MDAC has fixed wierd problems for me on 98 machines.
I would take a look at this document for different possibilities as to what could be going on.
