Can an InstallShield Professional 6.1 project be opened in
InstallShield 7 without manual modifications?
Is it compatible?
Are necessary alterations automatically made?

Thank you for your help.

It should automatically be converted. However I thnk the migration guarantee is only valid for 6.3 projects.

I have to correct myself. What I said is true for InstallShield Professional 7.
IS 6 projects can be imported to Developer 7, but some manual work will be required in most cases. I believe there's a migration white paper at installshield.com

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for your help.
I've found additional information at

That document is about Professional 7. If you are using Developer 7 it doesn't apply.
BTW if you're using Professional then this is the wrong group.

Hello Stefan,

I seem not to be aware of the difference between InstallShield 7 Professional and Developer.
So far I've thought that Developer is Professional
plus Windows Installer but that's obviously not
the case (total confusion). So I'll pay more attention
to the correct newsgroup in future.
My IS 6 project is for a client who has still to
decide whether he will purchase IS 7 Prof or Dev
for himself to be able to revise this project later on.

Developer and Professional both use InstallScript (although it's optional in Developer), but under the hood they use very different technology.
