It's easy enough to set compatibility mode for old apps trying to run on XP or 2000 by right-clicking the file and checking the box on the Properties | Compatibility tab. But can anyone tell me how to set it during the course of an install? The attribute does not survive when the file is copied to the user system.

OK, I've found "set __COMPAT_LAYER=Win95", which can be used in a batch file or login script. But how junky is it to start an install by running a batch file! I'm really looking for a DLL function I can call. All help greatly appreciated.
