Back @ 2000 we had a consultant to do a installproject for us, and now we need to fix a problem. The consultant is no longer avalible, but i got the sourcecode/project but i don´t know exactliy wich version of IS he used!! 6.?? How can i determine this?

Good question, but unfortunately I have no idea.
Most of the version numbers I've encountered have been schema versions and not literal product versions. Sorry.
Stefan can probably answer this question since he's done consulting and has had to deal with this problem first hand.

There are mainly two places to check:
The version info of setup.exe - this typically indicates the exact version number and maintenenace pack used.
The .ipr file includes a "schema" version which may however be identical across versions. But it should tell you which version you can use to open and modify the project, which is probably what you want.
