Patching components containing multiple files?

Hi,
May be a stupid question..
I am using DevStudio9.
Say I use a static component containing multiple files;
Now if in a later version (patch) one of the file changes, but the key file of
the component remains unchanged, what will the patch do?
I'm afraid, it will not update the changed file, right?
That would mean I would have to create a seperate component for each single file...
But the component assistant automatically (without the possibility of changing that
behaviour...) puts all those files into one component.
That means I would have to ADD EACH SINGLE FILE MANUALLY?
Our setup contains way more than a thousand files...
Can anyone calm me?
Thanks for any help,

That's true. Maybe you can use one special "version" file as the key file of the component?

Thanks for the hint..
I guess I'll have to do that;
Seems a little complicated to me though.
Thanks for helping,

Jörg
