I am having a problem with adding or removing certain features in the CustomSetup dialog box in modify/maintenance mode. Although I select that a feature should be added or removed, the components belonging to the feature are not being installed or uninstalled.
However, when I go back into the CustomSetup dialog box, the feature state looks as if the install or uninstall of the feature has been successful. Also, I have custom actions that should be run when certain features are added/removed from the CustomSetup dialog box and these custom action work fine
What is very strange is that this only happens to certain features, other features add/remove as expected.
All features are set up in the same manner, they are set to Favor Loca, are set to Disallow advertise if not supported and the destination folder for all features is the same.
Another thing that is unusual is that using the ADDLOCAL or REMOVE properties from the command line succeeds in installing and removing features.
This problem only occurs on Windows 9X machines.
Below are 2 small extracts from 2 log files.
Log file 1 shows some information on a feature that was selected for Removal but whose components where not actually removed.
Log file 2 shows information on a feature that was selected for removal and all its components were successfully removed.
In log file 1, it seems that although the MyFeature1 is being set to “Request Absent”, the corresponding components are not and are being set to “Request Null”.

If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this problem, they would be much appreciated.
