I have never used a product which is as unstable as Install Shield.
I don't like when developers claim that the bugs are related to the xxx product
or operating system but if you use IS this is unfortunately the case.

I guess to be a IS guru you have to know the workarounds.

Don't use the Installscript MSI type of project, go for the Basic MSI project type. There are a number of known problems with the Installscript MSI projects, the Basic MSI type is much more stable. If you have an existing Installscript MSI project you cannot automatically convert it to Basic MSI (I think there is a tool somewhere that will do it, but that will delete all custom actions). If you want to manually change the project to a Basic MSI you can export each component from the current setup into a Basic MSI project by right clicking the component and selecting "Export into...". Then navigate to the setup file where you want to insert the components.
