I am trying to upgrade from version 1.0.1.7 to 1.0.5.550 but not successful. I did turn on the MSI logging and I have attached the failed log file.

Successful upgrade - 1.0.1.7 to 1.0.1.50 - No changes to source code.

Failed upgrade - 1.0.1.7 to 1.0.5.550 - Several changes made to the source code.

 

During the failed upgrade, the installer doesn't show any error messages but the files in Program File (x86) folder haven't been replaced with new files.

I am not able to attach the log file from successful upgrade due to file size restriction.

Thanks for the log. This shows the problem:

MSI (s) (F8:E4) [11:37:11:420]: SELMGR: ComponentId '{4F0891F0-0042-9572-663C-975779148EB8}' is registered to feature 'AlwaysInstall', but is not present in the Component table.  Removal of components from a feature is not supported!

You have removed a component from the package, which is not allowed in a minor update. Either use a Majpr Upgrade, or keep the component in the setup, but with a condition of 0 (= false) and "Revevaluate Condition"= yes.
