I am working on 2 applications which share some in house developed components.  Is there an advantage to using a merge module vs a shared component othere than the obvious advantage of containing a component definition in one location?  Or are merge modules primarily intended to distribute to external third parties?  I am happy to simply define a few duplicated components as shared if this would effectively manage the link tracking for these components.

Any comments on the tradeoffs of this situation would be appreciated.
