The Events and Errors Message Center in Microsoft TechNet helps to find detailed explanations, recommended user actions, and links to additional support and resources for entries you may see in your event log. For instance, you enter the event ID number, and the database returns a description of the error, plus links to related knowledge base articles.
At least that's the theory. In practice, it turns out that many event IDs and sources are not (yet) available in the database. Anyway you should give it a try. If it comes up with nothing you can still search the web.
