Hi,

I am trying a major upgrade during which I need to backup and restore the user data.

I think this can be done through custom action. However I do not know where to place the backup custom action and the restore custom action such that it does the intended functionality and is run only once during a major upgrade.
Also what should be the condition to run this custom action?

Any insights or help is highly appreciated.

Back up before RemoveExistingProducts, restore after InstallFiles, or even later, just before InstallFinalize (assuming that RemoveExistingProducts is earlier in the sequence).

As a condition use the property that you used in detection of the old version (Upgrade table)

Thank you for the suggestions.
I backed up the data just before the dialogs are loaded and restore it after the files are installed.
