- Path variables are of no use here, because their use is only fotr the source of the files
- Properties, I can't get them to work for this purpose.
What is the best way to do this?

I want to have an installation of a feature into a user-defined folder, by means of a custom dialog.

Add a new entry to the directory table set the parent to INSTALLDIR and give it a default name (or use the dot convention - see documentaion on Directory Table). use this new entry as the directory for your seperate components. You will then be able to change the location independently of INSTALLDIR.
