MSDE 2000 already installed, install crashes

I'm having a problem that Installs created with the latest MS Medge Modules for MSDE 2000 will crash the install on the first screen of the installer if MSDE 7/2000/SQL Server is already installed on the computer. This is a really bad thing. It should skip it if sql server is installed, or MSDE 2000 is installed, and upgrade if MSDE 7 is installed. But of course it doesn't.
