Detecting if MicroSoft SharePoint is insalled?

I need to make sure that MicroSoft SharePoint is installed and at Service Pack 1. Can anybody provide me with info on how to do this? What is the best method? I can look in the registry, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for!

I would suggest to search for "SharePoint" registries in the usual
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\...

I do not know this s/w but there might be the infos (version number, install path, etc) that you need.
