is it possible for a basic msi install to read a file in a directory above it's source directory?

for example, there's a c:\dir1\dir2\setup.msi
is it possible for it to reference c:\dir1\setup.ini to set registry settings without using installscript? i'd rather use just basic msi instead of installscript msi although i'm not sure if it's possible.

I am pretty sure that this is possible.

The 3rd column in the directory table is the source
i.e.
[targetname]:[sourcename]

Try running that with a few different values
