Hi,

I have been asked to produce some installers using InstallShield - a
subject I know absolutely nothing about - so I'm rather pleased to have
found this site! Please be patient if I ask some really basic
questions!

My first problem is with shortcuts. The testers have complained that
the target in the shortcut invoked by Start | Programs | <app-grp> |
<app> is wrong. When I went to look at this, I was surprised not to see
any shortcuts defined on the shortcuts page in the Installation
Designer.

Could it really be possible that InstallShield is doing something clever
in a kind of under-the-hood way and creating these (maybe I need to look
somewhere else in the Installation Designer?), or is it simply (as I
suspect) that someone has changed the IS project between then & now!

Many thanks in advance for any responses.

PS: This is a Basic MSI project in InstallShield pro 2008.

Hi,

Firstly, are you sure that your application installs the shortcut? If yes, is it hapenning (shortcut being created) everytime you install your application? If again the answer is yes, then there is a shortcut added in your installer. Try opening the installer (.msi) file and check for shortcut?

Let me know the answer for the above.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Hope you are repackaging some application.
If so,first confirm that the application you are repackaging puts a shortcut. If so, then come to the shortcut section. If there is some shortcut captured then please delete it and recreate the shortcut manually.Make sure that you have provided the correct exe , the arguments if any and the location where the exe is put by the application.

Hi,

First of all check in the shortcut dialog of your installshield IDE(BASIC MSI). I believe that the shortcut name may be defined there (may be advertised )
