What is a "managed installation"?

Hello!

I can't find a definition of:
managed installation / non-managed installation

It's used in the description of the policies.

These are "installations approved by the administrator".

I think that all managed installations are listed in Add/Remove Programs, Add New Programs, Add programs from your network.

This list can be populated by GPOs with Software Installation. I assume that other methods exist, but didn't bother to look for that...


Managed Installations are trusted installations, they are always executed with elevated priviliges. Non-managed installations are not trusted, and therefore executed with the priviliges of the user.
One exception is when both the system and the user hold the AlwaysInstallElevated policy, in that case all installations are executed with elevating priviliges.
