Hi there,

When doing a major upgradr, is the installed program has to be removed, before installing the new one?.
i did all the changes required to the major upgrade, and when i'm running the new msi, it gives me an error message saying the a prev verion is already exists, and i must uninstall it first.

is it how it should be?

The old version is removed by the RemoveExistingProducts action.  This invokes the old version of the installer to uninstall itself.

The best place for the RemoveExistingProducts Action is immediately after InstallFinalize.   This minimizes unnecessary installation and configuration.

As to your problem,  what have you put in the Upgrade table?

Check List.

Changed Package Code
Changed ProductCode
Increased ProductVersion
Made sure the UpgradeCode is the same.
Authored line/lines in upgrade table.
added the action property of the upgrade table to the  SecureCustomProperties list.  The action property must be public (ie all capital letters).
