Hi

We are currently having problems with uninstallations/upgrades because our servers are domain controllers and therefore you do not have the true administrator account as you normally would on a machine. Therefore we have several users set up on the domain controller as administrators. However, if our software is installed as an administrator it cannot be uninstalled as the proper adminstrator. Does that make sense?

Does anyone know what the difference is to Installshield as to regards to the administrator privileges on a machine???

Are you installing per-machine or per-user? If you install per-user, even for an administrator, I think that same user has to uninstall to get rid of stuff that is in the user-specific areas of the registry or in the user-specific folders.

If you install per-machine, stuff will be installed to the LocalMachine hive of the registry and the AllUsers folders, and anyone with sufficient privileges should be able to uninstall cleanly.

Been looking into this a little further and it would appear that if an administrator is part of the Domain Admin groups they don't have the same permissions as an administrator who belongs to the Administrators group.

Does anyone have any idea how we can get round this in terms of Installshield?

I've already set the ALLUSERS property but I think the problems is really to do with admin rights over windows functionality such as controlling services.

Does anyone have more idea about the differences between the two admin groups?
