i'm looking for some sort of documentation/information about best practices/standards to be followed while while writing an installer.

I mean something like sequence to follow, apperances of dialog boxes, etc.,

Well I don't have any soft documentation/infomation, but I'm sure there are plenty of books on the subject. There may also be some web sites available. Unfortunately, I don't have specific references to share, but maybe others can suggest some.

I found "Bulletproof Installs - A Developer's Guide to Install Programs for Windows" a good read for theory and design and such. However it is written for IS 5.1. It's been awhile since I browsed it but the ideas might still be valid if the examples aren't
