Hello,

I am building my first patch with Windows Installer 1.5 version. I changed only four files in my project, one exe and three dlls. I changed version number and package code of newest build. When I create patch, patch includes in total 1700 files instead of only those four files.

I checked between two builds, non of those files included in patch; except those four files I changed, shows any change in nature (date and time as well as size of  files are same in both versions).

The patch creation log says for those additional files :

Patch API could not create a small patch; using whole upgraded file.

What could be the problem ?

Any help would be appreciated.
Devang.

Hello,

One more important observation this might help.

All those files which are added to the patch (which are not changed at all in the new version) were included in the setup program using "dynamic link" option.

Does this cause the problem ? If yes, then is there any work around ?

Devang.

Have you tried setting the Patch Optimization field in the Release Wizard to your old install?  That might clear up some of those useless files being included
