Our current installer was built with IS6.3, and we've recently purchased Dev 7 and are about to develop a new installer.
Can an installer built using Developer 7 upgrade an installation performed by an IS6.3 installer? Or must we first uninstall the 6.3 package?
Some of our sites will be upgraded by support engineers, and some by customers themselves. Either way it would be easier if the new installer could deal with the registry entries that the IS6 engine installed.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Daniel Mellor

The underlying technology in ISD7 is Windows Installer (MSI), and is quite different from IS6. So in the MSI-meaning of the word, you cannot perform an update (e.g. where only those features would be updated that the user selected for installation etc., or creating a patch).
What you can do is either install to the same location, thus overwriting the existing version. In this case you will have to delete the uninstall registry entry, else you'll have two uninstall entries.
Or you call the uninstall of the IS6 version from your ISD7 setup, and then install the new version.
