The major upgrade works as follows:
(1) uninstall old version
(2) commit the changes
(3) install a new version
(4) commit the changes
If the user presses the "cancel" during (3), the dialog box says that the system wasn't changed. In raality, the old version is no more installed. This can be annoying for the user. Is there any way to disable step (2)?

I believe this depends on your placement of the RemoveExistingProducts action. This is discussed in MSI Help.
