I started receiving a "Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation" during uninstall or upgrade of some of my product installations.

After much debugging, I realized that my GUIDs that were generated by my build server contained letters that were lowercase. This apparently caused the Windows Installer to choke at some point (Windows XP was not affected by this problem). The problem went away when all the GUIDs were created with uppercase letters.

I just wanted to post this message if anyone else was experiencing the same problem.

Windows Installer GUIDs must be in upper case, as documented in msi help.
Maybe newer versions of the runetime (MSI 2.0 as included in XP and avaialble as redistributable) are more tolerant here?
