FlexNet Connect or....?

Are game companies rolling their own update services/servers? Or is their another alternative to FlexNet Connect?

I thought Symantec had and update service they sold but I'm not seeing it on their site.

Since I've seen at least one other similar post that went unanswered I'll answer my own post. I know...it's really bad form to do this. It's just for reference when someone else searches
