Rolling Back Action

Do you know possible reasons for a "Rolling Back Action"  with InstallShield Wizard  on Windows2000?

I have this same problem with INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD when trying to install Logitech/QuickCam (installation process created with DemoShield Wizard) or IBM/Whebsphere Studio, the installation fails in the very very last steps...

The installation process goes until:
"Removing Backup Files" (the status bar is then on the extreme right)

And then it displays:
"Rolling Back Action" and the status bar moves backwards... (to the left)

Last message is
"Installation Completed Successfully" though nothing is installed!!

Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks for your help
Gilles.

Rollbacks are caused when an error occurs during the active part of the Installation between InstallInitailize and InstallFinalize.  You should create a log file to see which particular action is failing and the error code so you can correct the problem.

As a user -not a developer- of InstallShield Wizard, is there a way to create such a log file?
Thanks for helping.

As explained in msifaq.com, I tried to turn on globally Windows Installer logging - since other approaches require the InstallShiedl IDE - but I didn't get any log file... The steps I followed are:

1. Using Regedit, I created a key named 'Installer' under HKey_Local_Machine\software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

2. In this Installer Key, I created a new String value with 'name' equals to Logging and 'data' equals to voicewarmup

3. I ran InstallShield wizard for some applications I have problems with

4. I looked in the WINNT\Temp file but couldn't find any log file ...

Is there any step I did wrong? Is there another way to do?

By the way, I also tried to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility but it is also rolled back when trying to install it!! So I won't be able to use it to solve my install problem!

Thanks very much for helping.
Gilles.

Winnt\temp is not your temp directory.  Look for the one in C:\Documents and settings\< your user name>\local settings\temp

I have 3 products that rollback when trying to install them - IBM Websphere Studio (WSAD), Logitech QuickCam, and Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. I read through the log files but that is still unclear to me. Is the "MSI (s) (E4:30): FEATURECACHE: Entering Invalidate" the problem? What does this mean?

I have listed below what seem to me the key extracts from the log files.
If you have any hint or any suggested action, please let me know.

1) Here are the log lines a little ahead and after the rollback starts when installing IBM Websphere Studio (WSAD) :
