In my setup I'm executing a CA that launch an exe file stored in a property.
The execution is in Deferred mode.
The exe in Wscript.exe
the command line is the vbscript name with a parameter.
the script modify the machine.config of .Net framework

The problem is that when the CA start, the vbscript open the file but retutn the following error when it saves the file:

The filename,directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect
Code : 8007007B
Source msxml3.dll

If I create another MSI that contain only the CA in question, it works correctly

Maybe your custom action isn't really the problem. I'd recommend to create a verbose log file to see where exactly it's failing, and also get information about all property values etc. This would help to diagnose the problem.
