I am doing a Basic msi, Installshield 10.5.
Is it possible to search for a service, then put up a Dialog box that gives the user the option to stop that particular service? And if so, how do I go about it.

In Windows Installer there is no built in functionality to search for services. You will have to create a custom action for that purpose.
You can however stop services, so if you don't need to ask the user, you can stop it automatically, without need for a custom action.
