Hi All-

I am trying to install an addin for Excel 2003. As part of my installation process I run a custom action to determine the security settings for Excel. I know that these values are written under the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\<office version>\Excel\Security key IF the user has changed the settings. My problem is I don't know where to look if the values are not under HKCU.

Does anyone know where these values are stored?

I apologize for the Office specific nature of this post, but I hoped others who had already faced this issue would have some ideas on how to handle it.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Microsoft has a download called Office Resource Kit (abbriviated to ORK). It installes a folder "Office Information", which contains a file called REGKEY.XLS. It describes all (or most) registry keys, including defaults when a value is missing.

Do you want to install a COM Add-in with a digital signature? One of the things that you cannot do, is force the user to trust your signature. This part is guarded by the CryptoAPI of Windows.

The file in question is not a COM AddIn, but an XLA. It does, however, need the macro security level to be set a certain way, etc.

Thanks for the pointer to the ORK - I'll check it out.

Just in case anyone else needs the info, you can download regkey.xls (along with other information files about Office) from the following links (watch for line wrapping):

Office 2000 - http://download.micr...f5d/offinfo.exe

Office XP - http://download.micr...-US/orkdocs.exe

Office 2003 - http://download.micr...16a296a/ork.exe

Hope it comes in handy for someone.
