Using ISD 7.02, I have (painfully) built a patch for an application for which the setup was created using the same ISD 7.02, as a basic MSI module.

The patch seems to work ok, and reports an error when users try to apply it on a machine where the base version of my app was not installed, which is absolutely normal. What is not is that they cannot seem to use MS Office 2000 after this error occurs, because Windows Installer prompts for its installation CD. Users have to reboot their workstation in order to be able to use Office again.

The setup for the base version installed a host of merge modules, but nothing directly related to Office 2000.

Any idea on what may be happening?

If your patch updtaes the MSI engine to version 2.0 this is normal behaviour. After updating the engine Office shortcuts don#t work until you reboot the machine.
