Hi

Is it necessary to warn customers that they must disable any anti-virus programs on their machines prior to performing the installation?

The problem is that the most recent version of McAfee anti-virus software does not allow us to disable the scanning function. This may be true of other modern anti-virus programs. I don't know how it affect the installtion.

Thanks.

It's generally suggested, but necessarily required, that user's manually disable their anti-virus programs prior to installing a piece of software. This is mainly for two reasons. The AV software may be using some key system files causing them to be locked. Also, it's realtime scanning will greatly slow down the process of copying files.

However, your installation program should NOT be trying to do disable a user's anti-virus program for them. Instead put a message along those on the welcome screen and/or in the readme.
