As far as I know, you need to use custom actions for this...
For a system association, read the value of "HKCR\.BMP\" (possibly with APPSEARCH), store the value in the registry, and restore it later.
For a user association, read the value of "HKCU\Software\Classes\.BMP\" (possibly with APPSEARCH), store the value in the registry, and restore it later.

I would store the previous value under HKLM\Sofware\YourCompanyName\YourAppName\YourAppVersion\Installer\Value. This ensures that the value is available to any system administrator who may uninstall the setup.
